Manchester United in classy gesture to lower league clubs

Manchester United have insisted lower league clubs need-not pay any outstanding loan fees for their players.

As reported by the Daily Mail, United have informed a host of lower league clubs including, Burton Albion, Hearts and Bolton Wanderers that they do not need to pay their outstanding loan fees; a combined figure believed to be in the region of £130k.

Joel Pereira (Hearts), Ethan Hamilton (Bolton Wanderers) and Kieran O’Hara (Burton Albion) are all currently on loan from parent club, United.

Club representatives have said they deem it unfair to further increase the financial strains lower league clubs are already under due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and will instead absorb the six figure loss themselves.

As quoted by Manchester United, during a recent statement, Chief Executive, Ed Woodward reiterated United’s desire to contribute by saying: “Since the start of the pandemic, Manchester United and our Foundation has provided assistance to hospitals, charities and schools in our community, as well as support for our frontline workers and vulnerable fans.”

Throughout these unprecedented times, one thing remains a constant – United are continuing to show themselves in a positive light.  Throughout the last three months, the club have continued to show their support for essential services as well as accepting many clubs are not in the financial position they are.

This latest gesture from United will undoubtedly ease some pressure on the three clubs involved. A classy gesture indeed.
