Bruno Fernandes compared to Cristiano Ronaldo by former team-mate

Bruno Fernandes has been likened to Manchester United and Real Madrid hero Cristiano Ronaldo by Sporting Lisbon’s Luiz Phellype.

Fernandes joined the Red Devils in January and has enjoyed an impressive start to his career at Old Trafford, scoring three goals in his first nine appearances for the club. To add to his impressive start, the BBC named Fernandes in their Premier League team of the season, despite playing just five games in the league competition.

Brazilian forward Phellype, who joined Fernandes at Sporting in 2019, claims he is not surprised by the impact our Portuguese Magnifico has already had in the Premier League.

Likening him to Ronaldo is premature, though, and I don’t think anyone is saying Fernandes is as good as the Juventus forward, who won three Premier League titles with United before going on to have a staggering career at Real Madrid.

Speaking to A Bola about Fernandes, Phellype said (translated by The Metro): “He is calm off the field, but inside it is transformed.

“It didn’t surprise me [that he hit the ground running]. People think the Portuguese league is weak, but it is not true.

“The physical and tactical level is very high. Whoever stands out here, manages to stand out in other championships.”
