Manchester United reportedly failed in an attempt to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso in January.
The Frenchman has made just six Bundesliga starts this season, and has not made an impression under new boss Hans-Dieter Flick.
According to German publication Kicker, as sourced by the Metro, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Old Trafford on a loan move until the end of the season.
Tolisso has grown frustrated playing irregularly in Germany after signing from Lyon in 2017, and was seen as a short-term option to help boost United’s midfield options.

However, Bayern are said to have turned down United’s approach because they were not comfortable letting a player go midway through the season without signing an adequate replacement.
Therefore, Tolisso’s exit now appears more likely in the summer when Bayern can scour the market for a suitable midfielder.
It is unclear whether United would be interested in permanently signing a player who has fitness issues and had limited game time in recent months.
Tolisso spent a large spell sidelined last season with a serious knee injury.
United eventually ended acquiring their prime target in Bruno Fernandes last month, but the midfield is still an area that has to be strengthened this summer.
According to Manchester Evening News, Donny Van De Beek, Jack Grealish, Jude Bellingham and James Maddison are all being considered by the Reds.
