Solskjaer makes big transfer claim before Liverpool game

Manchester United are in the process of planning a spending spree.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to select from an injury hit squad this weekend as the Red Devils host Liverpool.

David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard have been ruled out, with Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial both doubts. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should return as his problem before the international break was a bout of tonsillitis, not an injury like the others.

Ahead of the Liverpool match, Solskjaer has made a transfer vow, stressing to Gary Neville that the money is there in an interview with Sky Sports.

“The money is there and I’ve been looking at players. We were close to a couple of players but they weren’t right.

“The money is there to strengthen in January, in the summer, and we are planning, we are looking, we are finding our targets, but just before the transfer window ended no, they weren’t there, the ready-made players.

“The resources are there if the right players are available.”

It’s usually difficult to conduct business in January, though United have been linked with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, as per The Express, and striking a deal for the out of favour Croatian shouldn’t be too difficult.

His experience and ability to score goals would be very welcome at Old Trafford even if he’d be a short-term option.

Solskjaer should be targeting two centre-forwards, two central midfielders, one wide player, a left-back and another centre-back over the next two transfer windows. It make take three but the homework needs to be done.
