Peter Crouch explains why Man Utd shouldn’t sign Christian Eriksen in January

Manchester United have again been linked with a move for Tottenham midfielder Christian Erisken.

Goal reports that the Reds are considering making a move for the Denmark international during the January transfer window.

Eriksen’s contract runs out next summer, so Spurs may be willing to sell in January in a cut-price deal to avoid losing a player of such quality on a free.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was believed to want to sign the player this summer, but there were concerns that his preference was to play in Spain at Real Madrid.

Former Spurs striker Peter Crouch does not think Eriksen would be a wise buy for United and questions whether his style of play fits into the current system at Old Trafford.

“At Manchester United at the moment they seem to be buying top, top players who have come available,” Crouch said on BT Sport.

“I think they were linked with Christian Eriksen today – yeah he’s a top player but does he fit in the way Manchester United want to play?

“I think they are missing a director of football or a link from the financial side to the playing side.

“I think at the moment the decisions that are being made aren’t the right ones.

“Whoever’s making the decisions of hiring and firing the managers or buying the players, it’s not been a success. I think a lot of that money has been wasted.”

In reality, Eriksen is exactly the type of player United should be targeting in attacking midfield. There is no creativity in the final third and Eriksen has proven his ability to create chances and score goals in the Premier League.

The problem with the proposed transfer would be convincing the 27-year-old to move to Old Trafford, given the current state of affairs at the club. Erisken would be joining a weak squad and the Reds are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.
