Report: Man Utd identify two Premier League stars to replace Pogba

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City’s James Maddison or Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Erisken if Paul Pogba leaves the club this summer.

Evening Standard’s James Robson claims that Maddison, 22, and Eriksen, 27, have both been identified as potential replacements for the Frenchman, who has suggested he wants to move away from Old Trafford this summer to seek new challenges.

Erisken and Maddison are both excellent creative midfielders who have proven themselves in the Premier League. However, both are likely to command high fees with both Spurs and Leicester not in need to sell their star men.

The Independent reported earlier this month that United were in pole position for Maddison, whereas Eriksen has been tentatively linked with a move for Old Trafford.

Maddison would be the cheaper of the two options and is also significantly younger than Eriksen, who has expressed his desire to leave Spurs this summer. But with Real Madrid signing Hazard and perhaps even Pogba, a move to Old Trafford may be the only proposal for Eriksen.

Robson’s report also claims United are still tracking Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, who settled into life in the Premier League brilliantly at Leicester in his loan spell last season.

A move for any of these targets is likely to depend on the future of Pogba; it is still uncertain whether the Frenchman will get his move this summer.
