Mourinho asked about Smalling and Lindelof’s partnership at the back ahead of Wolves clash

Jose Mourinho was asked about his preferred centre-back pairing during Friday’s pre-match press conference.

In recent weeks, we have seen Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof form what so far looks to be a formidable partnership in United’s defence and the Manchester United manager was asked if he plans to stick with the defensive duo against Wolves.

With that in mind, the boss announced that Phil Jones is back in contention to start after recovering from injury.

That not only gives Mourinho more options to select from but a comfort zone knowing he has cover for whoever he decides to start.

However, Mourinho needs to find consistency at the back and he won’t achieve that by chopping and changing his selections.

Mourinho’s response would suggest there’s no definite inclusion in team selections for either Smalling and Lindelof. The pair must continue proving themselves or else he will consider other options.
