Erik ten Hag spoke to the media on Tuesday morning ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Sheffield United.
The manager revealed that Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho sustained injuries during the semi-final win over Coventry City.
United booked their place in the FA Cup final in what will be a repeat of last year’s Wembley final, as we face rivals Man City. However, after giving up a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with the Championship in extra time, it was United who came out on top after winning 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
Ten Hag is aiming to win all remaining games this season to give the club the best chance of qualifying for European football.
However, that could be made harder as his squad has been hit with more injuries. The Dutchman confirmed that Garnacho picked up a ‘problem’ during the FA Cup semi-final win. A lot of people questioned Ten Hag’s decision to replace the attacker, despite being unaware of the reason for him being substituted.
Many left the stadium on Sunday feeling that Garnacho’s substitution changed the game, but we were 3 goals clear. That is not enough to excuse how we threw away such a lead.
Garnacho should be ‘fine’ to face Sheffield United on Wednesday night, but there are bigger doubts about Scott McTominay, who will be assessed prior to the game.
Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes also have issues ahead of the game.
Ten Hag told reporters, as quoted by The Sun: “We had a problem with Alejandro Garnacho, that’s why we took him off during the game but I think he will be fine.
“Scott McTominay we have to assess today, really doubtful.
“Marcus Rashford is also doubtful and there was also an issue with Bruno Fernandes with the hand but I think he can make it.
“We have some doubts going into the game tomorrow.”
United need to win football matches if Ten Hag plans to tackling the pressure that is currently mounting on his shoulders.
The manager described the reaction to the semi-final win as ‘embarrassing’ during a verbal attack on the media.
