Video: Awkward moment United fans scurry back into Wembley after Coventry’s winner is chalked off

Manchester United thought they’d exited the FA Cup in extra-time to Coventry City before VAR intervened to spare their blushes

Fans at both ends of Wembley Stadium were left anxiously waiting with their hearts in their mouths while Victor Torp’s last-gasp tap-in was being checked over by the VAR officials.

It was ultimately chalked off due to an incredibly tight offside in the build-up from Haji Wright, leading to the tie being decided on a penalty shootout, which the Reds went on to win.

If United were wondering why their support looked a little lighter during the spot-kicks or post-match celebrations, it’s because hundreds of match-goers were spotted hurriedly leaving the stadium when Torp’s goal went in, before attempting to re-enter when they’d learned of it being disallowed.
