Manchester United believe Jason Wilcox will help sign Everton defender

Manchester United are keen on signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite at the end of the season.

The Reds need to bolster their defence in the summer and I think the manager needs to clear out those who haven’t been available or good enough this term.

A report from The Sun suggests that United are hoping to appoint Jason Wilcox as their transfer chief since he has connections with Branthwaite’s agent David Reeves.

As a result, United believe that could help them sway Branthwaite in the direction of Old Trafford.

Branthwaite is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in European football and he could prove to be a good long-term signing for the club. After spending a season on loan at PSV Eindhoven under former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, he emerged as one of Everton’s key players in what has been another difficult campaign.

United have looked vulnerable across defence because of injuries this season but that is the reason why such a position should take priority this summer.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Branthwaite would improve United defensively.

  1. In fairness, he has played well enough to make a step up to a good team. Going from Everton to United is a sideways move these days.
