Florian Wirtz agent downplays transfer talk amid Manchester United links

The agent of Florian Wirtz has reacted to suggestions that the Bayer Leverkusen winger could be on the move in the summer amid reported interest from a number of clubs, including Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has shone is an impressive Leverkusen side inspired by in-demand head coach Xabi Alonso, scoring eight goals and registering an incredible 17 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

Alonso has been linked with a number of jobs amid suggestions he is on Bayern Munich and Liverpool’s wishlist. The former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder could have sway in the transfer market, and his influence could be big with a number of top clubs expected to swarm around Leverkusen’s best players.

However, in the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen on top, Wirtz has five goals and 10 assists in 23 appearances. It is understood that his form has attracted interest from United this season and the Reds are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer market.

Wirtz’s agent and his father claims that the Germany international is likely to remain with his current club until his contract expires in 2027, despite being linked to clubs like United as well as Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Hans-Joachim Wirtz told Kolner Stadt-Anzieger: “Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027. That is roughly how long he will stay at Leverkusen.

“There’s no answer what will happen when. We should wait for the next two years and then we’ll see what happens.

“Florian is very lucky to have Xabi Alonso, who brings a lot of qualities. He has a great relationship with the whole team. It’s the right coach at the right time.”

The timing of these quotes are interesting because Alonso has been heavily linked with an exit. Perhaps it’s a hint that Wirtz could follow him to his next club whether it’s Bayern Munich or Liverpool?

Leverkusen take on FC Koln on Saturday afternoon.
