Out of favour Anthony Martial is attracting interest from Ligue 1 clubs

According to reports, at least two Ligue 1 teams are discussing whether to pursue Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.

With little over four and a half months left on his deal, Martial is expected to leave the Red Devils in the summer on a free transfer.

Although United have the option to extend his contract for one additional year, it seems unlikely given the player’s fitness issues and lackluster performance under Erik ten Hag.

The 28-year-old has only scored twice in his seven starts and twelve substitute appearances across all competitions this season, and he is currently out due to a groin procedure.

The Sun claims that Monaco and Marseille are keeping an eye on the French player because they see a chance to go through with the transfer.

With 70 appearances between 2013 and 2015—15 goals and eight assists—Martial is no stranger to Monaco. This helped win him a high-profile transfer to Old Trafford at the time.

As of right now, no team appears to be in the lead in the competition for his signing, but whenever he returns to the picture later in the season, offers could start to come in.

Marseille, however, are rumored to be interested at a time when their chances of making it to Europe for next season are slim.

Currently on a five-game losing streak in Ligue 1, Gennaro Gattuso’s team is in eighth place in the rankings, five points behind fifth place and eight behind third-place Monaco.

The report also adds that clubs in the Saudi Pro League and Turkish club Fenerbahce would have made a move for Martial in January only to be stopped by his injury, which has ruled him out for at least two months.
