Kobbie Mainoo makes history with start against Liverpool

One of the biggest games of the season is looming large as kick-off at Anfield is just minutes away, with Manchester United looking to get back to winning ways and ending an almost seven-year wait for three points at Anfield.

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure to turn things around at the club following back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth and Bayern Munich, with the latter resulting in his side’s exit from Europe.

United are poorly positioned going into this Sunday’s blockbuster clash with Liverpool, with Ten Hag missing most of his first-team regulars. Additionally, his captain is watching from home after Bruno Fernandes picked up a fifth booking of the season against Bournemouth.

United are lacking depth in midfield and Ten Hag has called upon youngster Kobbie Mainoo to shine at Anfield after the promising midfielder did so well the last time he was on Merseyside.

Mainoo starts alongside Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay in midfield but the 18-year-old’s inclusion in the lineup has also set a new record.

According to UtdDistrict, Mainoo is now set to become the youngest United player to ever start a game against Liverpool in the Premier League.

At 18 years, 7 months and 26 days, the Stockport-born prodigy comes into the game with a huge spotlight on him but if his performances this season are anything to go by, he will not be fazed.

Three points at Anfield could kickstart United’s season for real and in truth, it would make for decent reading in the table.
