Barcelona interested in selling midfield ace previously targeted by Manchester United

Manchester United could be set for another Frenkie de Jong saga this summer.

A lot of us will hope the club avoids going down that route after bending over backwards to sign the Netherlands international in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag made the former Ajax midfielder the club’s leading midfield target that summer. It remains to be seen if he is willing to do that again after missing out on De Jong’s signature.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona are ‘interested’ in offloading De Jong ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The Dutchman, who continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, is still considered an important player by key figures at Barcelona.

It is understood they will need to sell players before welcoming new recruits, which may be the reason why De Jong’s days could be numbered.

I would be hesitant to get involved in another De Jong saga. Let us know in the comments if you think United should try again to sign the Dutch midfielder.

  1. Sign only those who want to play for us because of who we are; not those whose Clubs no longer want them, or who are approaching the end of their careers, or who are seduced by high wages. Or all three!

    1. I get your point david but I actually think thats what united have been doing – the club instead needs to focus on players who want to win, very few of the best athletes or footballers care who they play for, they care about the opportunity to win things. this is a major problem at the club, too many players are probably just happy to don the united shirt, not actually to compete at the highest level.

i think that will change with the new ownership but there needs to be a significant change in the dressing room mentality wise – most of these players aren’t up to it.
