Manchester United’s attempt to sign 18-year-old Leicester City midfielder Louis Page collapsed on deadline day, but the Reds are reportedly ready to revisit their interest when the transfer window next opens.
United tried hard to force through a sensational late move for Page, but it never materialised, with Leicester’s financial demands proving a significant obstacle.

United’s interest in Louis Page had been building for weeks before deadline day
Why the deal collapsed
According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, United reopened talks for Page on deadline day and advanced to a stage where a deal looked possible. The price rose sharply to more than £10m, which United entertained, before an impasse occurred over Leicester’s valuation, thought to be £12m plus £3m in add-ons.
Page was named by Russell Martin in Leicester’s starting line-up for the League One visit of Plymouth Argyle, and that effectively ended the matter for now.

Arsenal snub adds leverage
Page had already turned down interest from Arsenal earlier in the year, with his eyes firmly set on a switch to Old Trafford. That preference should hand United a clear advantage whenever talks resume, even with Leicester’s asking price unmoved.
What comes next
Whitwell reported that Page played well against Plymouth and that United are expected to revisit the situation, with either the January or next summer window mentioned as the likely opportunity. A structured deal involving a loan back to the League One side, similar to the pathway discussed for other young midfielders United have sent out on loan, could help get ahead of the curve if the Reds move again in the winter window.
