Manchester United’s summer 2026 transfer window shut at 23:00 BST on deadline night, and Michael Carrick’s rebuild leaves the Reds without a new left-back or striker heading into a season that includes a Champions League return.
According to The Peoples Person, United will not be able to add to the squad again until January, with Carrick tasked with getting this group competitive in the league and in Europe using what he already has at Carrington.
A midfield rebuild, and not much else

The window was built almost entirely around reshaping the middle of the pitch. Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea for £48m plus £2m in add-ons, Youri Tielemans followed for £35m, and Carlos Baleba’s £65m-plus-£5m move finally went through in August after being tracked the previous summer.
Cristian Orozco, agreed a year earlier, put pen to paper this summer, while Karl Darlow arrived as senior goalkeeping cover and Tynan Thompson and Kit Margetson were brought in as academy additions. No forward or full-back followed, and Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford and Manuel Ugarte all remain at the club despite United’s repeated attempts to move them on.

Old Trafford’s exit door
Rasmus Hojlund’s loan at Napoli became permanent for £38m once the Italians triggered their buy obligation, closing his United chapter for good. Casemiro and Jadon Sancho both left as free agents at the end of their contracts, departing to contrasting reactions from the fanbase.
A long list of academy names also moved on permanently, including Toby Collyer, whose switch to West Brom was confirmed on a permanent deal, alongside Radek Vitek, Tyler Fredricson, Ethan Ennis, Ethan Williams, James Scanlon, Habeeb Ogunneye, Louis Jackson, Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey, Malachi Sharpe, James Overy and Louie Bradbury.
The loan list, and one deal still pending
Senior squad members Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir were both sent out on loan, with Bayindir’s move to Celta Vigo a loan rather than a permanent exit. Sekou Kone, Elyh Harrison, Soloman Honor, Jacob Devaney, Jayce Fitzgerald, Ethan Wheatley, Dan Gore and Jack Moorhouse all secured loan spells elsewhere too.
Chido Obi was still expected to complete a loan move to the Netherlands as United’s deadline passed, with that market staying open into Wednesday night. Until January, this is the squad Carrick has to work with – for better or worse.
