Club Brugge Shut Door on Manchester United Move for Seys

Young Club Brugge-inspired left-back beside a closed stadium gate during a transfer standoff

Club Brugge have delivered their clearest message yet on Joaquin Seys, insisting the 21-year-old left-back is going nowhere this summer regardless of what Manchester United put on the table.

According to Voetbalnieuws.be, United retain a strong and concrete interest in Seys, but Brugge’s position is now firm: he will not be permitted to leave even for a very high offer, and no transfer involving him will happen in this window.

United’s long-running interest

That represents a hardening of Brugge’s stance compared to earlier reporting this summer. Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad had previously claimed United had not made contact over Seys, with the Jupiler Pro League club placing a £30m price tag on their academy graduate.

Brugge boss Ivan Leko had earlier struck a more open tone, expressing pride in his players being linked with big clubs abroad and acknowledging that every player has a price. Those comments predate the club’s latest and firmer refusal to sell.

The Sun previously reported that United had already enquired about Seys, viewing him as a solution at left-back, with Brugge said to be willing to accept around €35m. The Mirror also reported that Michael Carrick was seriously considering an opening offer, with United keen to add younger competition at the position. Contract security strengthens Brugge’s hand

Seys is reportedly tied to Brugge until mid-2029, giving the Belgian side little financial pressure to sell even if a major offer arrives. That contract length is central to why Brugge feel able to draw a hard line this summer, whatever United’s valuation of the player.

Porto, Benfica and Aston Villa have also been named among the clubs monitoring Seys, adding further competition to any move United might eventually make. United view left-back as an area where they can add younger competition and greater long-term security.

For now, Brugge’s message is unambiguous: Seys stays put this summer.
