Not Gomes – Man Utd want to reunite Cunha with ‘best midfielder in Brazil’

Manchester United have reportedly added Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder André to their ever-growing midfield shortlist.

The Red Devils will be looking to ring the changes in the middle of the park in 2026, leaving Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo with uncertain futures.

On Tuesday, ESPN journalist Rob Dawson confirmed the club’s desire to pull off a midfield overhaul. While the bulk of the changes will likely ensue in the summer, the source leaves the door open for a potential January arrival, depending on market opportunities.

Man Utd’s seven-man shortlist revealed

In his report, Dawson revealed INEOS’ seven-man shortlist for the middle of the park. Unsurprisingly, Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba were all mentioned, as Man Utd’s interest in these three up-and-coming EPL stars is well-documented.

Moreover, the same report mentioned Conor Gallagher and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller, as well as Joao Gomes.

However, the latter isn’t the only Brazilian from Wolves on the list, as his club teammate and compatriot, André, was also included.

The 24-year-old is certainly the most eyebrow-raising inclusion. Although André has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, he has rarely been mentioned in recent months, unlike the other six midfielders on the list.

Why André could be the right fit for Man United

While his teammate Gomes tends to play a bit higher on the pitch, André is a deep-lying playmaker, who has been described as ‘one of the best sixes in the Premier League’.

Moreover, former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira hailed him as the ‘best midfielder in Brazil’ during his time at Fluminense.

The defensive midfielder has been plying his trade at the Molineux since the summer of 2024, but Wolves’ disastrous start to the season may spark an exodus in 2026, and André could be tempted to link up with his former Wolves teammate and fellow Brazilian, Matheus Cunha, who completed his Man Utd switch last June.

With Casemiro expected to depart at the end of the season, the Wolves star might be the right man to replace him, as Man Utd will certainly need a new energetic defensive midfielder.

  1. Until we get rid of Amorin it doesn’t matter who we buy his claim that he’s willing to adapt from his system rings hollow as he nearly got us relegated last season because he rigidly stuck to it

    1. He has adapted his system. He prefers a true 3-4-3. Not a 3-4-2-1 that he has been using. Also changing managers again so quickly would be a dumb idea as that’s what we have been doing for the last 10 years. Can’t keep changing managers hoping for different results. We currently have players from 4 different managers all brought in to play different systems. The club needs a complete overhaul of players that are more suited to play the system the manager wants to play. Last season you can’t blame the manager as he was brought in mid season. This is his first full season.

      1. Well explained. I get annoyed with people demanding a manager be fired without considering the well being or growth of the team. We can’t keep firing managers, every time we fire a manager we go back to square 1. It’s stupid, takes us back several steps and it’s a catalyst to inconsistencies.

    2. Amorim is going nowhere. You can either leave or begin believing in your team and manager. People with no football brains like should never demand a manager be fired.
