Manchester United chiefs have opted to put their contract negotiations with Kobbie Mainoo on ice for now.

According to Football Insider, discussions between all parties have ‘stalled amid uncertainty around his short-term future’ at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo’s contract talks: The state of play

United had been attempting to tie Mainoo down to fresh terms for several months. However, he has opted against committing to a new, long-term deal, having had his own wishes rebuffed by the board this year.

In the final week of the summer window, after the midfielder was left on the bench for the opening two Premier League fixtures of the term, he asked to leave on loan to play a more prominent role elsewhere.

The 20-year-old’s pleas ultimately fell on deaf ears, as club chiefs stood in the way of his departing – even on a temporary basis.

Mainoo will be eyeing a winter departure from Old Trafford

It was then claimed by Fabrizio Romano that Mainoo would reiterate his desire to leave in January in the event his case hasn’t improved. Given he’s still yet to make a league start and has featured for a measly 138 minutes in total, a transfer in two months’ time looks plausible.

As things stand, his deal runs until 2027, with United having the option of extending it by 12 months.

The prospect of losing such a coveted talent for nothing, especially one they’ve moulded throughout his academy progression, will be unthinkable.

  1. What a hypocrit is Amorim stating the club comes first its the players on the pitch that reward the club with wining and that enhances the clubs reputation yet a generation talent in Mainoo can,t get a game, its best that the kid leaves which will be another PR slap in the face for the club,as i stated previously Amorim is a Snake Oil Salesman killing young careers.

    1. True Bobby.I don’t understand how a manager states that he is on a ‘rebuilding’ project yet shows little interest in handing youngsters an opportunity to play & develop.

    2. So much fuss was made of Shea Lacey as an outstanding talent but he sat on the bench like Mainoo and never even got a sniff and that seems to be Amorin’s attitude so he can claim our record of an academy graduate in every matchday squad is being maintained by him and Obi has vanished into obscurity into the U21’s
