Manchester United’s loaned-out striker Marcus Rashford is reportedly negotiating a new contract with Barcelona, who are keen to keep him at the club.

The 28-year-old is the biggest star to emerge from Man Utd’s academy over the past decade. But following the arrival of Ruben Amorim, he no longer held a place at his childhood club.

The Portuguese manager dropped Rashford from his plans last December and never looked back. After a six-month spell at Aston Villa, the striker sealed what he had long considered a dream move to Barcelona last summer, signing for the Catalans on loan with an obligation to buy set at £28 million.

Following a positive start to the campaign, the LaLiga giants are now hoping to keep the England international at the club, explains Catalan portal Sport.

As the source explains, Rashford has already won over his new boss, Hansi Flick, who is an admirer of his ‘unique’ playing style on the wings.

Moreover, the Catalan club consider signing the ‘sensational’ star for £28 million a genuine bargain, as they would be able to register a capital gain if they ever decide to sell him to one of his suitors in the Premier League or Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona & Rashford in talks for 2030 contract

The two parties are reportedly negotiating a new contract until June 2030. Nevertheless, Rashford must be willing to accept yet another pay cut to push the deal through.

LaLiga 10 1 5
Champions League 3 4 2
Total 13 5 7

Since the versatile attacker is an academy product of United, his sale would constitute a pure capital gain. So while some might argue that the club could have sold him for a higher price, this transfer would certainly serve as a major financial boost, enabling INEOS to invest this sum on new arrivals.

Rashford’s permanent departure might be a sad day for many Man Utd supporters, but realistically speaking, it is an inevitable scenario, especially with Amorim reigning supreme at Carrington.

  1. I’m glad for Rashford seeing that no homegrown player will ever get a chance to play for the first team under Armorin. Yes I still will sy it that Armorin is not a good coach for Man U and the faster they fire him the better Man u will be.

    1. completely disagree. So if we sacked Amorim, than who the next manager? are we gonna keep sacking manager every 2-3 years? when will the team gonna compete? So you think keeping ‘homegrown’ player but not performing 100% yet we need to keep them? when even at training, you even coming late? is that profile that will make united even better? our club keep sacking manager 2-3 years since SAF retired.. never progressing and performing. I’m not saying completely agree with Amorim, but if we keep sacking manager again 2-3 years, we wont be a good team that could compete for title, just med table team like we are now.. because never let a manager keep progressing at all.

  2. 28M for Rashford is not a boost for United. It is an insult and an exposure of the poor quality of the decision makers at United.

  3. Real Madrid don’t seem to have a problem changing managers and being the best in the world.
