‘Absolute fool’: Ex-Red reacts to outrageous Man Utd incident, he’s fuming

When Alejandro Garnacho fired home an absolute worldie of a goal to seal Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday, fans were perplexed to see he didn’t reel off to celebrate with his teammates.

Bruno Fernandes revealed exactly why that was the case post-match, telling reporters that his young teammate felt as though fans had ‘lost faith’ in him as of late.

It came only three days after Garnacho had been criticised by a United influencer who was attending last Thursday’s game against PAOK. The YouTuber in question had spent hours waiting outside Old Trafford prior to kick-off in order to interrogate a 20-year-old in front of young fans, insisting that Garnacho should pass better, score a goal and work on his first touch.

Not only is it profoundly pathetic to try and coach a professional football player who plays for the team you allegedly support anyway, but it’s also detrimental to their confidence – as proven by the skipper’s comments over the weekend.

Garnacho is navigating only his second season as a frequent starter. He broke onto the scene under Erik ten Hag in 2022/2023 but didn’t maintain a starting role until the following campaign. Now, he is mostly a mainstay in the 11 – although he is currently vying with Amad Diallo for a permanent spot.

Such competition has only spurred on the Argentine livewire, it seems, as he is currently United’s top ‘scorer with seven goals to his name in all competitions, plus four assists.

When taking into account just how prolific the winger has been since the season began, Rio Ferdinand was even more baffled that a supposed ‘fan’ had the cheek to diminish his efforts.

“I’ve got a stat here… none of these players have more goals and assists this season than Garnacho: [Bukayo] Saka, [Ousmane] Dembele, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Rafael] Leao, Nico Williams, Michael Olise, Phil Foden,” Ferdinand relayed on his FIVE podcast

“And this is how this guy is talking to him… absolute fool.”
