‘How a big club should be operating’ – Delaney praises assertive Manchester United after Ruben Amorim hire

Miguel Delaney believes Manchester United were assertive in hiring Ruben Amorim as their new head coach after first approaching the Portuguese manager three weeks ago.

The biggest clubs receive compliments for being prepared. Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday and by Friday there was an official announcement that he would be replaced by Amorim, who starts work on November 11.

The Independent’s Delaney told Sky Sports News that United’s appointment of Amorim shows “how a big club should be operating”.

This is a sign of change from INEOS, who have a huge mess to clean up left by the Glazers. They got their desired man in a matter of days even though Amorim would have preferred to remain at Sporting until the end of the season.

It also feels like this has been a long time coming. United have conducted themselves poorly across a range of departments for years. The Glazers never showed the cash cow any tender loving care (TLC), which is why this process is going to take time.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone claims chief executive Omar Berrada deserves credit for his hardball approach to negotiations. We are led to believe that is how United got their man in the end.

Manchester United criticised by other pundits

However, the way United went about their business in the past week has been criticised in some circles.

TNT Sports duo Joe Cole and Martin Keown couldn’t wait to give their negative takes on the managerial situation when asked during the broadcaster’s coverage of Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

All this proves is that United will always dominate the headline.

We’re the biggest show in town no matter.

The biggest game in the Premier League this weekend kicks off this evening when United host Chelsea.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is looking to make it back-to-back wins after knocking Leicester City out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, winning 5-2 and playing an attractive style of football – but not without faults.

Chelsea will visit Old Trafford as favourites, but we know how unpredictable this league is.
