Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes Ruben Amorim comes to Manchester United with ‘a good pedigree’ after being appointed the new head coach.
Amorim’s move from Sporting Lisbon has been confirmed. However, the 39-year-old will not start work at Old Trafford until November 11.
During his time at Sporting, the Portuguese coach has proven himself more than worthy of a major role in European football having won two league titles in five years. The first title was Sporting’s first in 19-years and his departure reduced one supporter to tears on national TV.
The talk at Old Trafford isn’t like any other he could hope to face, but Amorim explained his decision to join United last night and made it clear it was ‘now or never’ after being dealt a dilemma from Omar Berrera, United’s new chief executive.

Lambert has a positive outlook on United under their new coach. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is a great club and a great job for him to have a good run at it. Maybe he is the right man but time will tell.
“He comes in with a good pedigree and it is a different type of football. It is different to when Jose Mourinho came over and he became that great manager after success in Europe.
“This is a little bit different. The great thing is he has a great club and fanbase behind him. Hopefully he is a big success because I think everyone needs to see Manchester United up there.
“If he can get a tune out of the players then he will do really well.”
Most pundits will opt to take a negative approach with their verdicts on Amorim because it’s United and they are in the business of clicks, but Lambert’s take is pretty measured.
We know Amorim faces challenges at United but with right set-up behind him, I don’t see why we can’t aim for the best again.
