Sir Alex Ferguson will miss Manchester United’s clash with Brentford today, just four days after being dropped from his ambassadorial role.
There’s nothing to suggest that had anything to do with Ferguson missing today’s Premier League meeting between United and Brentford.
But it won’t stop the mainstream media making a story out of the fact Ferguson was relieved of his duties as a club ambassador at United – losing his £2.16m-per-year paycheque as a result.
According to The Sun, Ferguson is at a prior engagement, which is the reason he won’t be at Old Trafford.
The axing was a mutual agreement and comes at a time INEOS are trying to cut costs at the club. It’s worth remembering that the Glazers had run the football club into the ground over the past 18 years.
It will be a big job to fix the damage but INEOS started with the many redundancies that were announced following their acquisition of the club.

Ferguson is understood to be maintaining his position as a non-executive member of the board at the club. That’s only right given he managed the club for an incredible 26 years enjoying a wealth of success, including the historic treble in 1999.
The Scot, aged 82, is still welcome to any United games going forward, as has been the case since he retired in 2013.
Erik ten Hag believes the decision to axe Ferguson as ambassador will impact everyone at the club, but we think that is a total exaggeration and that people are overlooking that it was a mutual arrangement.
Nothing changes bar the fact he won’t be doing marketing gigs for £2.2m+ per year. Is that really necessary?
Maybe the club would be free to progress as envisioned. Let him have enough time to rest with his family. Age catches him much.
