Marc Guehi is still a wanted man despite Crystal Palace’s struggles.

Newcastle are set to re-launch their quest to sign Crystal Palace star Guehi in January, with TEAMtalk suggesting that a £80m bid is being considered ahead of the January transfer window.

Eddie Howe’s side are expected to go back again in January to test the waters to bolster their defence.

The England international, who starred at Euro 2024, was among a list of defenders to be linked with a summer move to Manchester United in the summer.

It never materialised because the Reds never formalised their interest in the centre-back and opted to sign Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt instead.

Guehi’s future will attract more attention now that Palace have endured a slow start to the new season after a difficult summer, losing star assets like Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen. It was a huge bonus for chairman Steve Parish that they managed to keep hold of not only Guehi, but their talisman Eberechi Eze too.

That said, Eze is another player who is never too far away from links to United due to his impressive appearances for the Eagles.

The Magpies had three offers turned down by Palace for Guehi in the summer.

To Palace’s credit, they set their price somewhere between £80-85m and it was up to Newcastle to meet that. However, the highest offer rejected was believed to be worth £65 million.

It felt like Guehi had been priced out of a move – but this isn’t Manchester United we’re talking about and there’s no one cries over missing out on a switch to St James’ Park. TEAMtalk also reveal that Guehi has a preference to join Liverpool which makes more sense now that he has seen United overlook him in the summer transfer window.

Sources have told the outlet that Liverpool could compere for Guehi’s signature, but they are not willing to meet Palace’s current demands.

Guehi has not singled that he is pushing for a move behind the scenes, so Palace can feel comfortable about the situation. It’s ultimately up to Newcastle if they want to meet the valuation because Palace are unlikely to budge mid-season.

A sum of £80m for Guehi would make him Newcastle’s record signing, which is currently Alexander Isak after his £63m transfer from Real Sociedad in 2022.
