The Manchester United faithful are eagerly awaiting updates regarding the future of Erik ten Hag amidst a general expectation that he’s approaching the end of his reign in the Old Trafford dugout.

Surprisingly, that could well end up not being the case.

INEOS chiefs and United executives held a meeting in London on Tuesday to discuss all things United, including the future of Ten Hag, after he had just overseen the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign on record following last Sunday’s goalless draw with Aston Villa.

Journalist Sam C (@SamC_reports) on Twitter/X has shared a blockbuster report this afternoon, which claims the Dutchman is expected to survive the international break and continue as normal when the Reds return to action on October 19.

He revealed: Erik ten Hag highly likely to remain Manchester United manager, sources confirm to me.

“Manager understands that the situation currently at Manchester United isn’t up to the standard of where it should be, and sources close to him believe he’s able to turn it around.”

In recent days, numerous outlets had reported that the likes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his second-in-command, Sir Dave Brailsford, had begun considering potential successors for the soon-to-be-vacant managerial position, such as ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel.

Whether such speculation was just wide of the mark – or the hierarchy has performed something of a U-turn in their decision-making – remains to be seen.

Either way, it seems unlikely that United’s decision-makers will be keen to give Ten Hag a full season without a significant uplift in results after the international break.

The club boasts a reasonable defensive record (eight goals conceded) in the Premier League this season. However, it’s difficult to see how the ex-Ajax boss turns things around without directly addressing the truly woeful offensive output (five goals scored is the joint-second worst record alongside Crystal Palace in 2024/25).

  1. -3 after 7 games is a very bad return.
Man Utd always scored plenty of goals and the fans are being robbed of this with the kind of football now being served up.
We are going backwards and INEOS should see this, with all the so called “Football Experts” they have brought in.
Ten Hag is NOT the man to change this around and we will see this if he stays for any longer. We need to get in a top maker ASAP. Tuchel is the one.

    1. Any manager that would leave amad diallo on the bench and bring on Anthony against villa knows nothing about football and deserves to be sacked right away

  2. To most of us, at least It seems like the club is now being run by professional football people rather than the money-driven individuals of the past.
It’s therefore very disappointing to see some self-proclaimed MUFC fans expecting instant results from the new management.
Turning around any club (leave alone the institution of MUFC stature) takes time and a lot of patience.
People should manage their expectations and try to enjoy the process. Constantly criticizing the manager and the players isn’t beneficial for anyone, including the haters and complainers!

  3. 616 millions spent in just over 2 years half of them could make the bench against villa and united are worse now than when he took over and it can get worse
