Erik ten Hag took over as the interim manager in November 2022. Here we are, heading into the Manchester United 2024-2025 schedule and Ten Hag’s future is in question. There was plenty of talk of switching to a Manchester United new manager, but the stalwart remains.

During the summer, a Manchester United new manager announcement was anticipated. As of now, Ten Hag has a vote of confidence and there will be no Manchester United new manager announcement until at least Christmas.

New signings

The most anticipated new transfer of Manchester United may be Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. He is the latest Manchester United new player transfer, singing for £50m plus £10m in add-ons.

Ugarte is the fifth signing under Erik Ten Hag, following 18-year-old Leny Yoro, striker Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and full-back Noussair Mazraou. The thought is that each new transfer of Manchester United is entering their peak years and can help bring the club back to glory.

The team spared no expense, paying more than £200m for their new additions. Yoro is the most costly of the group, coming with a £62m fee to bring him over from the French Ligue 1.

Impact of the changes

Whether the most impactful Manchester United new player transfer will be Ugarte or Yoro (or another player) remains to be seen. Ugarte is considered to be one of the best midfielders in the game. He also becomes the second senior holding player next to the returning Casemiro.

The signing of Yoro is a major one for a few reasons. It not only signifies changes to the team’s recruitment policy but is the first time that the club has beaten a major rival to a bright, talented young player. Both Paris Saint-German and Real Madrid both pursued the young star and Yoro even expressed a preference for Madrid before ultimately signing on with United.

United has managed to sign a lot of quality young talent in recent years. Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, and Jadon Sancho all garnered major deals despite there being a lack of major competition for their services. This will be a make-or-break season for both Ten Hag and the club. With the addition of quality players like Yoro and Ugarte, there will be no excuses now. A championship may not be realistic, but a finish in the top four could very well happen.
