Ruud van Nistelrooy remains the favourite for the Old Trafford hotseat, if Manchester United decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

Thomas Tuchel’s odds have been slashed to 4/1 from 7/1 to be the next permanent manager at Manchester United by bookmaker BoyleSports.

The former Bayern Munich boss, who won the Champions League at Chelsea, was reportedly approached about a possible succession in the summer by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Sunday’s scoreless draw against Aston Villa may have eased the pressure on Ten Hag, but it has been mounting on the Dutchman leading up to the October international break.

However, United are currently 14th in the Premier League table following our worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Fan favourite Ruud van Nistelrooy, who rejoined the club in the summer as Ten Hag’s assistant, has been tipped to become the next first-team manager. He is priced as the favourite at 13/8 to get the job permanently should United chiefs drop the axe on Ten Hag.

Other candidates in the list include Gareth Southgate, Kieran McKenna, Graham Potter, Michael Carrick and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has fallen in to 4/6 favourite to be the first managerial casualty of the Premier League, ahead of Wolves’ Gary O’Neil and Southampton’s Russell Martin.
