Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa away from home is thought to be a must-win fixture for Erik ten Hag, as pressure continues to mount heavily on his shoulders.

Villa, like United, had to factor in their midweek European action, with the West Midlands outfit currently hosting Bayern Munich at Villa Park – remarkably going toe-to-toe with the German giants upon their return to the Champions League.

As for the Red Devils, they’ve just landed in Portugal to undergo their final preparations for tomorrow night’s Europa League tie against FC Porto. Updates from Carrington this morning confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire were involved in training as usual following respective injury concerns, while Mason Mount looks set to miss out after he suffered a nasty head collision last time out versus Tottenham Hotspur.

In terms of Unai Emery’s options, he’s likely to spend the next few days sweating on Jacob Ramsey’s condition. The 23-year-old was withdrawn after just 26 minutes this evening, limping off with an apparent groin issue and being subsequently replaced by Leon Bailey.

Amadou Onana, who completed a summer switch from Everton, also looked to be struggling with a hamstring complaint throughout the closing stages of the first half. He did continue after the interval but only lasted 13 minutes before being withdrawn in place of Ross Barkley.
