Mason Mount’s Manchester United tenure thus far has been nothing short of dismal for all involved.

It’s a shame for the midfielder, as he’s never really had the opportunity to maintain a positive run of form and, therefore, nail down a starting role.

Injuries have plagued his time at the club following his controversial move from Chelsea in 2023, which saw United fork out £50 million to acquire his signature – despite Mount having just one year left on his contract at the time.

He ended his maiden Premier League campaign having made only five starts plus a further nine appearances as a substitute, while being unavailable for 31 matches across all competitions.

This season, the 25-year-old has already missed three matches and is now poised to undergo another spell on the sidelines, with Erik ten Hag confirming tonight – via Samuel Luckhurst – that the No.7 is ‘carrying two injuries’. He lasted only 40 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, having come on as a substitute, as he suffered a nasty head collision that left him bleeding heavily. His other issue is unspecified, though a hamstring complaint was the reason behind his earlier absences.

As for Mount’s compatriot Luke Shaw, who hasn’t featured for United since February 18, he’s expected to make his long-awaited return after the October international break – though fans shouldn’t expect to see him as early as the Brentford clash on October 19.
