Manchester United could compete with Barcelona for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.

The 22-year-old has risen to prominence over the past 12 months and he contributed towards eight goals and 19 assists for Bilbao last term. That form prepared Williams for a successful Euro 2024 campaign in Germany during the summer.

Naturally, Williams’ performances have attracted the interest of top clubs and they will be keeping tabs on the winger over the coming months.

According to Fichajes, United has entered the race for Williams’ signature and is determined to secure his services in the coming months.

Williams is a player who could improve United in wide areas, but only time will tell how much we are willing to spend or whether it matches Bilbao’s demands.

Despite being short in height, Williams has the physical and technical attributes to thrive in England.

Williams, 22, has another three years left on his current contract at Bilbao and he has a release clause worth around £48.5m.

The report states that United and Barcelona also have competition from Liverpool for Williams’ signature, so there will be stiff competition to get the Spain international to Old Trafford.

Only time will tell if he can transform United’s attack.
