‘Just a matter of time’ – Ten Hag backs star to bounce back from slow start to the season

Erik ten Hag is backing Bruno Fernandes to overcome his spell of poor form.

The Portuguese midfielder has been called into questioning for his performances since the beginning of the season, but not for a lack of trying.

Considering how the manager spent all last season backing Marcus Rashford it shouldn’t surprise anyone that he has chosen to do the same with Fernandes.

Ten Hag is convinced United captain Fernandes will soon be back to his best having made a slow start to the season.

The 30-year-old signed a new and improved deal until 2027, with the option of a further year, on the eve of a season that the skipper has yet to set alight.

Fernandes, who has registered four assists this season, has yet to get his name on the scoresheet. It wouldn’t be a bad time to do that against Tottenham on Sunday.

“I think the team brings him now in the situation,” Ten Hag said, in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by RTE.

“I think he is capable, and he has proven this so many years already in the Premier League that he can create many chances. I am convinced this season he will not do differently.

“He will come and respond, he will find his form and he is already creating chances, but he will make final passes, he will score goals 100% and it’s just a matter of time.”

  1. No, it’s not surprising ETH is backing him, what is surprising is that he’s getting criticism – are these real Reds? He inspires, leads, scores, score match-winners, provides sumptuous passes. “ Well, that’s not good enough, he needs to be 100% perfect every match, how dare he suffer a dip in form?”
‘Loyalty’, you moaners – ever heard of it?
