Lisandro Martinez was one of three defenders to keep his place in the starting line-up as Manchester United drew 1-1 against FC Twente on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
The result was a disappointing one as United start their 2024/25 European campaign with a point when we were in a comfortable enough position to build on the 1-0 lead we had at half-time.
Ultimately, United failed to punish Twente and allowed them a route back into the game with some shoddy awareness on the ball as well as defensive play.
The likes of Martinez, who wasn’t at fault for Twente’s only goal, will be annoyed at the fact we wasted an opportunity to keep another clean sheet. The equalising goal to make it 1-1 came from a reluctance to tackle the runner and Eriksen giving away possession.
In his post-match comments, Erik ten Hag accused the team of giving a goal away and that is exactly what happened.
Martinez did have a highlight to reflect on in the heart of defence as we approached the final 10 minutes, however.

The Argentine receives the ball under pressure but shows his ability on the ball by manoeuvring his way between two FC Twente players.
It’s not often you see a butcher move so smoothly.
