After dropping points in back-to-back matches, Erik ten Hag must go back to the drawing board to map out a new approach for Manchester United’s upcoming run of fixtures.

Based on the recent speculation regarding the Dutchman’s position in the dugout, there’s certainly a case there for the next three matches leading into the October international break being must-wins.

United host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday before returning to Europa League action away to Porto on October 3, followed by a trip to face in-form Aston Villa just three days later.

Last night, it looked as though Ten Hag was more than comfortable settling for a 1-0 victory, which is remarkable given how the new Europa League format would cater to an increased goal difference. Although, this is coming from the team that ended the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign with a goal difference of minus one, so perhaps fans are asking too much…

United fans grow infuriated at side’s ‘sloppiness’

You’d struggle to pick out many players who covered themselves in glory, but one oversaw a particularly poor 90 minutes – especially by his standards. 

Samuel Luckhurst picked up on the skipper receiving some stick from the Old Trafford faithful, too, writing on X/Twitter: “United fans becoming increasingly hacked off at some of the sloppiness and [Bruno] Fernandes has been guilty of it more than most tonight.”
