Manchester United and Newcastle United could go toe-to-toe in vying for the signature of Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling, according to GiveMeSport.
The 18-year-old’s handful of Premier League appearances thus far has quickly caught the eye of the European-chasing clubs in the top flight, so much so that they’re already plotting how they can prise him from St. Mary’s when the transfer window reopens.
Dibling was granted his maiden start against the Red Devils last Saturday, and despite being on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat, the midfielder was undoubtedly the hosts’ standout performer throughout his 63 minutes on the pitch.
It was his superb dribbling and clever footwork that led to Diogo Dalot lunging in and clumsily giving away a penalty after being beaten inside the area, though Cameron Archer proceeded to see his effort – and follow-up – saved by Andre Onana.
Saints boss Russell Martin hailed Dibley as a ‘brilliant’ and ‘special talent’ last month after he was their ‘biggest attacking threat’ in just a 15-minute cameo vs Nottingham Forest. It does, however, mean that club chiefs will be doing their utmost to keep him on the south coast long-term, and are they already preparing to reward their academy graduate with an improved contract.
