Manchester United star Antony must now start to deliver his worth after the club spent £86 million on securing him from Ajax in 2022.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was keen to bring Antony with him to Old Trafford from Ajax.
However, the transfer hasn’t panned out how the Dutch boss would have hoped for with the winger now behind several attackers in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
The young Brazillian star started quickly at Old Trafford with a debut goal against Arsenal leaving supporters hopeful that they had found a new gem to excite the United faithful.
The former Ajax forward’s output has been poor since his debut season with the winger only contributing two goals last campaign.
Erik ten Hag losing patience waiting for Antony to perform
It is often seen that a manager can get judged by his choice of transfers.
It was clear that Ten Hag pushed for the Antony signing, and so far the Brazillian is yet to prevail in a red shirt.
With a hefty £86 million price tag, the young forward has to start proving his worth or his days at Manchester United will be numbered.
Ineos made it clear in the summer window, they want to clear out players that are deemed surplus to requirements to generate funds for further incomings and improvement to the first-team squad.
Time is running out for Antony to deliver, with the Manchester United boss publicly calling him out in his press conference ahead of Manchester United’s Carabao Cup fixture vs Barnsley.
The Dutch coach has been Antony’s biggest supporter, but the lack of form shown by his star signing is taking its toll on the Red Devils boss’ patience.
It’s now or never for the winger to deliver, if he wants to stay at Old Trafford he must re-create the glimpses he has shown with goals against Manchester City and Barcelona consistently.
With United youngsters Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho continuing to flourish, the 24-year-old has no choice but to raise his game if he wants to fight for a place in the starting XI in the coming months.
