Ally McCoist has given a brutal assessment of Manchester United’s options on the wing, after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton at Old Trafford.

The former Scotland international singled out two United wide men after watching the Reds get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

It has been a slow start to the season for the Reds – winning two matches and losing as many in the league. They are in Carabao Cup action tonight after being drawn at home at League One outfit Barnsley.

United navigated a tricky opening 25-30 minutes against Southampton before winning the match 3-0, and dominating in the second half. Matthijs de Ligt opened the scoring after Andre Onana denied Southampton’s Cameron Archer from the penalty spot.

Marcus Rashford ended his goalscoring drought and doubled United’s lead before the break. The win was sealed in stoppage time after a sublime finish from Alejandro Garnacho.

Speaking on talkSPORT after the match, former Scotland international Ally McCoist took aim at Antony, who didn’t even get on the pitch against the Saints.

McCoist went on to stress that Garnacho is the “best of an average bunch” when it comes to wide players at United this season.

“Let’s be honest about it,” McCoist told talkSPORT, as quoted by UnitedInFocus.

“He [Antony] has far from set the place on fire. I have got to say, Garnacho is the one for me in the wide positions has been the best of an average bunch.

“You look at [Marcus] Rashford on the other side as well, I know he scored at the weekend, his form has not been great.

“I think Garnacho has been the best of an average bunch.”
