Manuel Ugarte made his debut for Manchester United on Saturday and he already has a nickname in the dressing room.

The nickname is likely to stick if Ugarte can prove himself as a key player at United over the coming season.

Ugarte came off the bench for the final 17 minutes to make his debut against Southampton.

The Uruguay international didn’t have much to do because the Saints didn’t threaten our goal while he was on the pitch, but the midfielder would’ve been pleased to start his United career with a 3-0 win.

Still, Ugarte gave us a glimpse of what he can do in the middle of the pitch. He won two tackles and completed each of the 13 passes he attempted.

Fellow South American, Lisandro Martinez, has nicknamed Ugarte ‘the octopus’ following his debut for the club.

On Instagram, Ugarte posted: “This journey has started. Thanks to all the fans for the incredible support. Let’s go!”

In the comments section, Martinez replied: “El pulpo,” which translates to ‘The octopus’.
