Southampton striker Ben Brereton Diaz broke the Premier League’s most embarrassing record against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Chile international, 25, started against his former side having spent seven years in Manchester United’s academy between 2006-2013.

Southampton continued their poor run and remain winless in the Premier League this season, with zero points to show for four matches and scoring just one goal in that spell.

Cameron Archer missed a penalty just after the half-hour mark and was made to pay. Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford scored quickfire goals to make it 2-0 before the break before a stoppage time goal from Alejandro Garnacho sealed the win.

The result means Brereton Diaz is still looking for his first win in England’s top flight. To make matters worse, the Chile international holds the outright record for the most Premier League appearances without a win.

It was his 18th Premier League and he has yet to be on the winning team.

Brereton Diaz will hope his luck changes soon or else Southampton are headed for their second relegation from the top-flight in three seasons.

The newly promoted side, managed by Russell Martin, could become the top division’s whipping boys if they don’t improve before it’s too late.
