Liverpool are among a handful of Premier League clubs mulling over a move for an ex-Manchester United talent.

Indeed, Angel Gomes has caught the eye of a host of admirers in recent weeks, primarily due to his deserved maiden call-up to the England squad.

Lee Carsley was quick to award the 24-year-old his chance, along with other stars – such as Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Gordon – who’d played integral roles in England’s U21 Euros winning campaign last year.

Gomes proceeded to make his debut off-the-bench against the Republic of Ireland last Saturday before playing the full 90 of the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Finland earlier this week.

A Carrington graduate, Gomes departed Old Trafford in search of increased game time elsewhere, having made 10 senior appearances for his boyhood club. He was offered a new contract by United officials but opted against their proposal, instead leaving as a free agent and signing for Lille in 2020.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell with Boavista for one season, after which he returned to France and cemented his place on the teamsheet, becoming an integral cog at the heart of their midfield.

Gomes etched his name into Red Devils history when making his maiden bow, as he became the youngest player to make the leap to the first-team in over 60 years; he was 16 years and 263 days old when he replaced Wayne Rooney vs Crystal Palace in May 2017, while legend Duncan Edwards made his at 16 years and 185 days.

Gomes garnering Premier League interest ahead of contract expiry

Manchester Evening News recently claimed that the dynamic talent, labelled ‘unbelievably gifted’ by StatmanDave, ‘is open’ to a move back to United in the future.

However, should he opt to cut ties with Lille when his contract expires in 2025, he’ll have his pick of suitors if a return to England is what he desires. Football Insider has revealed that Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are all interested in a 2025 swoop for Gomes, the latter of which sent their scouts to watch him in action against Finland on Tuesday.
