Report: Christian Vivell ‘driver behind’ Manchester United signing 18-year-old prospect

After several important appointments, it was a new era at Manchester United with Christian Vivell starting to influence recruitment at Old Trafford.

Expectations in the window were high after key appointments of Omar Berrada as CEO, Dan Ashworth as sporting director, Jason Wilcox coming in as a technical director, and Christian Vivell as director of recruitment.

It is understood that the new task force sees the transfer window as a success with five new arrivals Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.

It was also an improvement on previous windows due to the club being able to make some money through departures which the Red Devils have previously struggled to do.

The Red Devils also made moves for young academy stars in the window, notably, Sekou Kone and former Arsenal youngster Chido Obi Martin.

The ability to navigate multiple deals quicker and develop the whole footballing structure including the academy is a clear aim for the new structure at Old Trafford.

The summer window has shown United supporters a glimpse of how Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Manchester United to operate in the market, which can only be considered a good sign for the future.

Laurie Whitwell reveals Christian Vivell key in Sekou Kone transfer

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has revealed how Christian Vivel has started to influence recruitment at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Vivell’s influence in the window, Whitewell said: Christopher Vivell, the interim director of recruitment, was a driver behind the transfer of Kone, who starred at the Under-17s World Cup in Indonesia last year, where Mali beat Argentina in the third-place play-off.

“The player was known to Steve Brown, United’s head of scouting operations, but it is felt that, previously, recruitment staff may have been unable to execute a difficult deal.

“Kone will go into the academy with a view to first-team involvement in the medium-term, given Ten Hag’s need for a No 6, the kind of “bridge” transfer United have not typically done. It was an aim of the new leadership team to assign a good budget to the pursuit of such players, with Ashworth providing oversight.”
