Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce has returned to management after being appointed by League One side Blackpool.
The role is Bruce’s 13th job in management since retiring as a player in 1999.
After managing Wigan over the course of two spells, Bruce has now managed 12 clubs throughout his managerial career.
The 63-year-old, who we feel has been treated poorly by multiple clubs (especially Newcastle), has not worked in management since leaving West Brom in October 2022.
Bruce is back in management almost two years last to replace Neil Critchley at Blackpool. He has managed more than 1,000 competitive matches for clubs including Birmingham City, Hull City and Aston Villa.
“I’m delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club,” Bruce told club media.
“I’d like to thank Simon, Julian and David for giving me this great opportunity. I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road.”
The Seasiders sacked Critchley on 21 August following back-to-back defeats to start the campaign, after missing out on a play-off spot last season.
It’s an exciting opportunity to return to management for Bruce, who has signed a two-year deal, even though he was previously recognised as a top-flight coach.
Bruce will be joined by long-term assistant Steve Agnew at Blooomfield Road, as well as Richard Keogh, Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks.
