‘Outstanding’ United ace has snubbed interest all summer long to stay at Old Trafford for one more season

As it stands, Manchester United have two probable first-team outgoings before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Scott McTominay’s move to Napoli is expected to be announced imminently, as Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed the midfielder has put pen to paper on his contract in Italy, therefore ending his 22-year association with United.

Elsewhere, the Red Devils are locked in negotiations with Chelsea in hopes of hashing out an agreement for Jadon Sancho. It’s thought that the Blues’ initial proposal was a loan offer, but United have made it clear that there must be a buy option included.

Have several players outstayed their welcome?

Heading into the window, numerous players were rumoured to be on their way out after being deemed surplus to requirements. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Victor Lindelof all faced uncertain futures, though the latter has seemingly rebuffed outside interest to see out his contract at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Gianluigi Longari claims the ‘outstanding’ Sweden international has ‘not taken into consideration’ any of the approaches he’s received in recent weeks and has instead decided to stay at United, where his deal will expire in 2025.

It’s somewhat surprising, as Lindelof will surely be aware that Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro will rank ahead of him when all players are fit. However, he did deputise at left-back on numerous occasions last season, so may be called upon again this term when fixtures start coming thick and fast in all competitions.
