“I don’t see…” Paul Merson predicts Manchester United vs Liverpool

Manchester United are set to take on bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday with Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson giving his verdict ahead of the highly anticipated clash.

Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils will be looking to bounce back after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium last time out.

The players will be keen to make their mark early in the season with a big win against their bitter rivals.

The Red Devils were unbeaten last campaign against Liverpool including a dramatic 4-3 win in the FA Cup quarter-final thanks to a stoppage-time goal in extra-time from Amad Diallo.

Liverpool come into the fixture in good form with back-to-back victories in their opening fixtures against Ipswich Town and Brentford.

Ten Hag will be hoping his side can re-create the performance that secured his first win as Manchester United manager in August 2022. The Red Devils won 2-1 with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has shared his thoughts on the two sides.

The former Aston Villa man believes United will secure another 2-2 draw similar to the previous Premier League fixture at Old Trafford last campaign.

Merson added: “So, for me, I think it plays into Man United’s hands a little bit more with Liverpool [and] the way they will play. But I still think it’ll be an entertaining game, there’s too much talent going forward on this pitch not to be goals.”

  1. I agree it will be a close call. However I do feel LFC will do enough to secure the win – either 1 nil or 2 -1. Unless of course Man Utd do their usual and score a late equaliser in the 545th minute

  2. As to my insticts(which are in most cases true) and the current form of LFC, It will end 2-1 in favour of the reds.
