Manchester United not interested in Chelsea star despite contradicting reports

Ben Chilwell is not a Manchester United target.

It appears United are being used as a smokescreen for players seeking a move ahead of transfer deadline day.

The Independent ran a report this morning on the possibility of Chilwell arriving at Old Trafford on loan, stating that a deal was struck on wages. The same article went on to state that the numbers were still some way off due to Chilwell’s salary at Chelsea.

There is a strong argument for signing another left-back because our senior options are out injured, and Diogo Dalot is having to provide cover on his least favourite flank.

United’s left-back situation is far from ideal but signing another injury-prone player isn’t going to fix it.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are not interested in signing Chilwell this summer.

Chilwell isn’t the right fit so this shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Talks took place over the prospect of doing such a deal, but they were pushed by the player’s representatives.

It’s possibly is least attractive option Chelsea could propose to United right now.

Another Chelsea player linked with a move to United is Raheem Sterling.

It is understood that Sterling would take a significant paycut to join his boyhood club United.

Update: The Independent has since updated the article to stress United are not actively pursuing a deal to sign Chilwell.
