Scott McTominay en route to Naples to complete Manchester United exit

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is set to join Napoli in a permanent transfer.

The Italian side’s interest in McTominay intensified over the weekend, but they have now reached an agreement in principle on a deal worth around £30m (including sell-on fee).

Personal terms between the player and Napoli have yet to be agreed.

According to The Athletic, McTominay is expected to travel today to complete his move to Napoli, which suggests that personal terms won’t be an issue.

McTominay is set to join Antonio Conte’s side at Napoli, with the Italian coach keen to work with the Scotland international.

It is understood that United were reluctant to lose McTominay, who scored 10 goals across all competitions last season but could not guarantee the minutes he wanted.

At 27, McTominay can go and play regular football at Napoli, which will mark an exciting new chapter for his career.

That doesn’t change the fact United are losing a useful tool who has come through the youth ranks at the club. A lad who gets it.

From a PSR perspective, it’s good news because McTominay’s sale represents ‘pure profit’, but I feel I’m clutching at straws by mentioning that.
