Dan Ashworth opens talks with Chelsea for former Premier League champion in Jadon Sancho swap deal

Manchester United have reportedly opened dialogue with Chelsea over a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and former Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.

Jadon Sancho looks set to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes with Juventus and Chelsea possible destinations for the former Borussia Dortmund star.

The Red Devil’s sporting director Dan Ashworth has been keen to show a new transfer approach ensuring the club does not overpay for their targets and gets value for money in the window.

With Chelsea’s interest growing in Sancho, United are exploring a potential opportunity to strengthen Erik Ten Hag’s attacking options with a deal for Sterling.

According to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Ashworth today has opened talks with Chelsea over a swap deal that would see Sterling switch to Old Trafford and Sancho head the other way to Stamford Bridge.

Vitaly, McGrath added that the club will only progress with the deal ‘on their own terms.’

Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho swap deal a good opportunity

It would be an eyebrow-raising transfer if Sterling did move to Old Trafford after spells at rival clubs Manchester City and Liverpool. However, it is understood that the England international was a Red Devils supporter growing up.

With Sancho keen on an exit, it could be a good opportunity to exchange the wantaway star for a player keen to revive his career with Sterling shunned from Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side.

It remains to be seen if the deal will progress ahead of the approaching deadline, but it is certainty a possibility as Ashworth explores possible deals for Sancho’s potential departure.

The transfer could offer a fresh start for both players and could be a deal that benefits all parties involved.

  1. With both Rashford and Antony happy to collect their vast salaries and not try to play, why is Sancho being singled out for sale? Rashford in particular would potentially bring in more transfer fee and free up greater amount within the wages budget.
