Napoli reach €30m agreement with Manchester United for Scott McTominay

Napoli have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign midfielder Scott McTominay.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the proposed deal is subject to all parties being satisfied with the player terms.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has flown to London and Manchester for talks over a deal for McTominay in the past week.

Now, it sounds like they’re making progress on a deal.

It is understood that a fee in the region of €30 million (£25.4m) has been agreed between the clubs.

Furthermore, United will get a share of any future sale from Napoli.

The Scotland international, who came through the youth ranks at United, is under contract until 2025. United also have an option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.

Since he is an academy graduate, McTominay’s sale would represent ‘pure profit’ and that helps United when it comes to Premier League and UEFA financial rules.

That said, it will be sad to see a good servant leave the club. McTominay was influential last season after scoring an impressive 10 goals across all competitions.

McTominay came off the bench in United’s first two games of the season, but he was unable to make enough of a difference against Brighton as Erik ten Hag’s side suffered their first defeat of the campaign.

As far as United are concerned, the funds they could receive for McTominay will help their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

  1. WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? I understand Scott’s view if he did initiate a transfer but if he did not WHY? are we selling? Just for profit ? For a player who “MAY” be good !

    1. I completely get people preferring to keep McTominay, but I think you may be forgetting he is 28 this December.
