What Ten Hag did on the touchline immediately after Brighton’s winner speaks volumes, all Reds will have done the same

BRIGHTON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 24: Erik ten Hag, Manager of Manchester United, shows dejection following defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion after the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Manchester United FC at Amex Stadium on August 24, 2024 in Brighton, England. Manchester United have sustained their first defeat of the 2024/2025 campaign at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.

A cagey affair culminated with Joao Pedro, who was somehow left entirely unmarked at the back post, heading home in the fifth minute of injury time to claim all three points in Fabian Hurzeler’s first Amex outing as manager.

In the first half, Danny Welbeck came back to haunt his former club yet again when he opened the scoring in the 32nd minute to mark his 100th career goal.

It then took United until 15 minutes after the interval to draw level, with Amad Diallo opening his account for the season through an impressive strike, which was helped on its way in with a deflection off of Jan Paul van Hecke.

Just five minutes later, super-sub Alejandro Garnacho thought he’d provided off the bench yet again – as he did against Manchester City in the Community Shield – when he found the back of the net after being teed up by Bruno Fernandes. However, it was subsequently chalked off by VAR after a closer look determined it had hit off of Joshua Zirkzee before going over the line.

A disheartening end to the Reds’ first away day

Given that such a frustrating affair then proceeded to end with a dagger at the death, Erik ten Hag was left ‘standing on the touchline shaking his head’ while Pedro reeled off to celebrate, per BBC Sport’s live commentary.

It’s a feeling he – and the United faithful – have grown all too familiar with after last season’s turbulent results, and supporters will be hoping what happened this afternoon is not a sign of what’s to come.

      1. ineos’ error they should have sack him after the fa and give another coack the chance to rebuild that shitty team . maguire – licha couldnt communicate in that first goal , dalot as always let his man with so much space ( bisaaka wouldnt have allowed that shit ) casemiro-bruno cannot make a single pass , mount was decent yet he was subbed of instead of bruno, amad was awful the whole game except his goal, de light didnt had sense of where the opponents were in the 2nd goal. the same pattern again and again , BRING OLE BACK AND LET HIM COOK

      2. Why? When you don’t have the ball, then you pick up an opponent, which means two players didnt do their Job 🤷‍♂️

    1. I believe we’ll have a worst season again after so much money spent..a quick fix is manchester united need these 3 players….Jarrad, Toney and ugarte..

    2. Ten Hag responsible, too many team selections and substitutions have caused us too many ga mes in the last two seasons. He has to go. Tuchel would be a good manager for us.

  1. Have the defence ever heard that in order to score you have to kick the ball forwards instead every time to the goalie. this slow boring soccer is typical man u for the last 3 years. Absolutly
no energy or intention to win the game. Shame on all pleyers and coaches

    1. HAVE YOU EVER THINK THAT THIS IS WHAT TEN HAG WANTS? LITERALLY THAT IS HIS STYLE PLAY OUT FROM DEFENCE. NOT THE DEFENDERS FAULT .

  2. I think this manager in Ten hag has completely failed to nail it in the premiere league,he likes to take chances, the way he assembles his squad is completely worrying, why use a false nine

  3. Playing out from defence is one thing but not getting forward from defence is another.
Our players never look forward always backwards. If this is what we are going to get again this season then god help us.

  4. ETH made blunders by removing both Rushford and Bruno . Rushford is a threat to defenders even if he is not on form. ETH must leave Man u.

  5. Guardian reckons Brighton’s late winner ‘stuns’ United.
Anyone here stunned we lost to Brighton? Me neither: it’s generally what happens.

  6. Defenders are doing what the midfielders should do and trying to be playmakers, still not playing with any forwards on the pitch and wingers were non existant i will not name the poor players as they know who they are or do they??

  7. 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 don’t worry Ineos have heard you and they will sign them before August 31st

  8. Why does everyone put the blame on the coaches .These players get paid enough money to do their job , but they can’t. No player in my book is worth all that money .

  9. Get rid of Ten Hag, he is not good for MU.
Play a proper centre-forward in Zirkzee. Mason Mount is hopeless. Use Rashford & Casimero as impact substitutes. Maguire is slow, have de Ligt & McTominay to start.
    Not that hard, i suppose.
Sick to to the core to see same shits last two years to be camouflaged by different wrapping
