It is shaping up to be a big season for Amad Diallo after being set a challenge by Erik ten Hag. An impressive pre-season tour led to a starting place in the Community Shield and Premier League curtain-raiser, but the Ivorian could now be set for a contract extension.

With 10 days left to go in the summer transfer window, United are trying to ensure that Amad Diallo’s future is at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has already challenged the winger to step up for United after starring for his side during pre-season.

The 22-year-old was hampered by injuries last season, making only nine Premier League appearances, but Ten Hag is confident the winger is ready to play a key role this term.

“We have to see Amad in a different way,” Ten Hag told MUTV, as quoted by the Standard.

“Of course he’s still young, but he’s not inexperienced anymore. Last season he had bad times with bad injuries, before that he was in the Championship and had a great season.

“At the end of last season he had a very good time in our first team, played some good games.

“Now this has to be the year. It’s great that he starts like this.”

According to CaughtOffside, United want to offer Amad a new deal to extend his stay at the club amid interest from three other Premier League clubs.

Ipswich Town, Southampton and Everton were believed to be preparing offers to sign Amad. It’s baffling because there has never been a hint from United that he’d be made available this summer.

The report states that United see great potential in the 21-year-old winger, who has only shown glimpses of brilliance in a Red shirt thus far – but that doesn’t take away from the exciting form he showed during pre-season.
